In Vedas, the Samaveda is considered to be prominent in the context of worship. It is composed with shadja swaras. Maharishi Jaimini has also called Sama a lyrical composition by Giteshu Samakhya. While glorifying the Samaveda, Shri Krishna called himself Samaveda in the Vedas. This Veda is smallest in size in all the four Vedas. There is praise of God in various names like Indra, Agni, Vayu, Varuna, Savita, Aditya, Vishnu etc. How to attain a transcendental happiness by worshiping God through human yoga is described in this Veda. The singing technique is revealed by Samaveda and in ancient India Vamdev anthem, village anthem, Aranyagan etc. have emerged. Swami Dayanand orders that we should express our gratitude to God by performing a musical lyrics of Samaveda Mantras at the end of all the Mars functions, such as Yajna, Sacrament etc.

वेदों में सामवेद को उपासना विषय में प्रमुख माना गया है। यह षडाजादि स्वरों सहित संगीतबद्ध है, महर्षि जैमिनि ने भी गीतेषु सामाख्या द्वारा साम को गीतबद्ध रचना कहा है। सामवेद का महिमागायन करते हुए कृष्ण ने स्वयं को वेदों में सामवेद कहा है। यह वेद चारों वेदों में आकार की दृष्टि से लघु है। इसमें परमात्मा की विभिन्न नामों जैसे - इन्द्र, अग्नि, वाय, वरुण, सविता, आदित्य, विष्णु आदि नामों से स्तुति है। मनुष्य योगादि द्वारा ईश्वर उपासना कर, कैसे लौकिक, पारलौकिक सुःख प्राप्त करें यह सब इस वेद में वर्णित है। सामवेद द्वारा गायन विद्या प्रकट हुई है तथा प्राचीन भारत में वामदेव गान, ग्राम गान, अरण्यगान आदि सामवेद द्वारा ही प्रस्फुटित हुआ है। स्वामी दयानन्द का आदेश है कि हमें यज्ञ, संस्कार आदि सभी मंगल कार्यों की समाप्ति पर सामवेद मन्त्रों का संगीतमय गान कर परमात्मा के प्रति अपनी कृतज्ञता व्यक्त करनी चाहिए।
